Thoughts, no. 71
The Great Clock at Westminster, the one people call Big Ben, is kept right by a small stack of old pennies resting on its pendulum. Add one and the centre of mass rises a hair, the swing quickens, and the clock gains about two-fifths of a second a day. They are pennies from before 1971, so the best-known clock in Britain is regulated with money nobody can spend.
